The Inspiration
This past Summer we moved into our new house in South Carolina and room by room we’ve been decorating. I knew I wanted cozy crochet blankets all over the house and slowly I’ve been making them. We’ve been really into modern/Scandinavian styles lately and this particular crochet blanket was the perfect design for our bedroom. The texture is amazing, even though it is a single color blanket the texture makes interesting enough. Feel free to change up the colors and yarn to fit your personal style though!

The Yarn
For this crochet blanket I used Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool in Oatmeal. I love the earthy tones of this yarn which work PERFECTLY with that Scandinavian style I was going for, and the wool content not only makes this crochet blanket super cozy but gives great stitch definition.
notes
- The ch1 throughout this pattern does not count as a st.
- I decided to use a ch1 at the beginning of each row instead of a ch2 or even a ch3 to give the blanket a cleaner, tighter edge.

If you wanted to make it wider, do you have to add stitches in multiples or can you just chain until you get the desired width?
ElenaandKamila says
Hi Shelby, you just need it to be an odd number of stitches, plus 1 for your initial turning chain.
Mary says
When you finish the 201 foundation chain, do you hdc in all stitches or skip 1ch?
ElenaandKamila says
Hi Mary, you hdc in the 2nd ch from your hook. So skip 1 ch and hdc across which will give you 200 sts.
Mary says
Thank you! It is such a beautiful pattern, but for some reason, when I crochet row 5 it doesn’t seem right because then at the end of the row I have an extra hdc stich open 🙁 I am a little newer to crocheting and row 4 worked out perfectly but row 5 is messing me up. I have redone the foundation chain 3 times, I must be misreading the pattern. I really appreciate the help!
ElenaandKamila says
Oh no! Are you maybe not doing the hdc in the correct st after the bo? Also, you should be left with 10 sts at the end of the row which will all be hdc. Throughout the row you’re doing 9hdc and a bo. But at the very end the last 10 sts will just be hdc. Hope that makes sense!
Amy Barnes says
Hi! I’m getting close to finishing this beauty but I’m confused about how to finish it! It says to chain 1 and turn and then that’s it? How do I finish? Thank you so so much!!
ElenaandKamila says
Hi Amy, you will be ending with a hdc row. Once you get to the last st you just do the last hdc without a ch 1. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Emily's Project List says
Hi! I am a little confused on row 6-12. Im newer to crochet so I am learning how to read patterns.
Do I dc1 in first stitch skip a stitch and then begin the 2dc st, sk next pattern? Or do I dc1 in first stitch, 2dc second stitch, sk next stitch? Also after I finished row 5 I have 200 stitches across, is that correct? Thank you so much!
ElenaandKamila says
Hi Emily!
yes throughout the whole pattern you will have 200 stitches (except for your starting ch which was 201)
for rows 6-12 you dc in the first st, sk the next st and in the third st, do 2dc, repeat the *2dc, sk1* until the end of the row where you will do 1 dc in last st. hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
Machale Kinzer says
Row 6-12 says DC 1 in first stitch, (2dc next stich, skip next stich) repeat to end of row then 1 DC in last stich. It does not say to skip a stich after the first DC? So as written it would be 3 DCs in a row then skip. Just want to make sure because it is the same in the purchased pattern. SO you DO skip 1 before the (parenthesis)?
Also what do I do after row 119 because it says HDC, Ch1 and Turn and then there is nothing else here or in the PDF pattern. DO I finish on row 119 or do I do more rows?
ElenaandKamila says
Hi, the pattern ends at row 119, at that point you would tie off your yarn and your blanket is done.
For the Rows 6-12, you will do a DC in the first st, 2dc in the next and then follow the instructions in the parenthesis. you will have 3 sts in your first 2sts. I hope that makes sense, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!
Machale Kinzer says
Sorry. I just calculated the number of stitches and if you put in a space after the first DC you end up with 201 stiches not 200. So you should follow as the pattern is written and basically do 1 DC then the 2 in one stich DC’s and then the skip, then 2 and skip from there on out right.?
